March 01, 2005 - 8:10 p.m. Last week, Spencer and I made a bet on the outcome of my English paper. If I got an A, he would force me to take six dollars to cover some expense incurred during a group outing when I had cash and he did not. Plus, I would somehow lose whatever moral advantage I had in trying to do something nice for him by paying for his dinner. If I got less than an A, he would keep the six dollars he had, and we would never speak of them again except in fond remembrance of this goofy bet. I know this sounds really backwards, but I didn't think my English paper was that good. It should be noted that he made this bet without actually reading my paper. We got them back today, and he won. Well, really, I won because I got an A- on my English paper and will soon be six dollars richer. But he won because I'm not allowed to pay for anything. I'm actually kinda glad that chivalry isn't dead. And it's nice that he has that kind of faith in me; he seems to think I'm brilliant. ...before & after...
